Fear is a really powerful emotion most of the time. If you’re afraid of doing something, you won’t do it. If you’re afraid of losing something, you’ll put a lot of attention into keeping it. If you normally have a normal blood sugar range and you never have to worry about it going out of whack, then you’re very unlikely to care when something goes wrong a little bit. If your doctor has told you that you really really need to watch your stuff, then you’ll care. You’ll figure out the science of healthy living because you’re afraid that your doctor will be angry with you.
That’s not always a good reason to do things. Being afraid of finding things the wrong way is not a good emotion either. When you find out what you’re supposed to be doing, sometimes that can be really scary and depressing as well. You’re not sure you like the end result will be because things have changed now. You’re not sure what you want to be doing and you’re not sure where you want to be going with your life because everything is suddenly really different than it was recently and a lot more like what your life was like back then.
That gets a little scary and a little hard to figure out. You’re not sure what you want to do with your life because now everything’s right there on the table looking at you all the time asking why you’re stuck and why you’re having problems and why you aren’t getting what you want right this second and why you’re not working on things. You have a method to check what you’re doing and you’re not sure how you want to handle it from there. That gets everything to be very strange indeed.
