You wouldn’t believe me if I told you the way that you clean your home and do some of your chores is a pretty unfriendly thing for the environment. It isn’t until you sit down and really think about what you’re doing. When you mop the floor your wiping a chemical across it to clean it. This is the same floor that your children or pet plays on. When you finish with your mopping you throw out chemical water by dumping it down the drain. This simple look can be applies to others things like your washing clothes, cleaning your furnace and a lot of other things. I think steam is a great alternative because you’re just playing with water and that is safe.
When you’re mopping your floor you can use steam. They call them floor steamers and they’re pretty good. They actually look like Swiffer Sweepers, except that they have a little boiler at the bottom for heating up the water. It’s actually a really easy item to use. Since steam is pressured out of the bottom you don’t have to scrub the floor with elbow grease. All you need to do is run it over the floor. The best floor steamer I’ve come across is the Eureka floor steamer. I really like them because they seem to have the best bang for your buck when it comes to quality features.
Something you might consider dumping is your old iron. Though there isn’t any byproducts associated with it, you’re actually burning your clothing. This in turn reduces the life of your clothes and will result in you throwing them out much earlier. Manufacturing new clothes and shipping them all adds to the environmental impact. Steam irons are a great alternative because you’re just shooting a little bit of steam into the fabric and it immediately dissipates. The best steam iron you can find are the Panasonic ones. They’re about the cheapest ones you can get on the market that do a pretty good job.
